I heard the greatest thing on the street today...so, of course I had to write about it.

I was walking down to Linz's, to get our fix of the noodle bar (I swear...I'm gonna turn INTO a noodle soon...that place is totally addictive...damn msg...), and passed this guy on the street who was just dialing someone on his mobile phone. Just as I passed him, I heard him say, "hiya, I need your opinion. Should I buy a christmas gift for someone who (here he giggles nervously) I've only be seeing for a week?" and then, "oh, oh yes...okay".
It was just the greatest thing ever, because I realize that we're all neurotic....it's not just me. ;)

Things that made me smile today:

1. For just a few seconds, the group of 6 guys walking in front of me on the way to town were all walking completely in sync. It looked awesome.

2. One of the construction workers that is always outside the library was wearing a santa claus hat. While he dug dirt out of a ditch.

3. Watching a little boy tightrope-walk his way along the top of a wall, his dad holding his hand the entire time.

4. A gingerbread latte, and a guy who said 'good stuff' while serving it. Haven't heard that since I was last home.

5. The really really bad decorating job of the christmas tree downtown.

6. Realizing I had been given an opportunity to get to know someone better.

7. And in and out, fleetingly, the thought of you.

*note on #7: if you're reading this, it refers to you. I thought a lot today about the people I know, and really, you all make me pretty happy. :)

Some times I forget just how dangerous live wires get when they're wet.

I spent some time alone with the stars, and I started thinking that maybe one of them could be ours.

Song lyrics. Gotta love 'em. And other things.

Blond hair flying, rainbow belt flashing, arms wide and flapping, smile dazzling....
These are my last and most poignant memories of my friend Maggie.
That, and sitting with her in Coffee & Co., having our annual christmas chat, and her showing me pictures of her work in Hawaii, of the blue-footed boobies and the little baby ganets and the sea turtles...and having her enthusiasm sweep me up and wash me away until I could almost feel the warm ocean on my skin and smell the tropical breeze.

To describe Maggie would need more words than exist in the english language.....you'd need pictures of sunrises over the ocean, shadows dancing on leaves under canopies of huge trees, rooms so full of laughter the windows would burst with it......

All you really need though is to gather together the hundreds of people who knew her....to make them all think of her...and then see the smiles magically appear on the faces......to understand who she was.

A beautiful person...in every possible way I could mean it.

Today is the 2-year anniversary when she disappeared from our sight......but I still see her...the girl who used to play UNO in my front hallway, who used to play transformer with my brother and I...who I grew up knowing and who made me realize that truely being yourself was the only true way to be....

I'm a less self-concious dancer because of her...and a lot of other things I could mention. :)

Thanks, Mags.
